Stray Kids’ Appearance in Kingdom: Legendary War
Stray Kids, THE BOYZ, ATEEZ, BTOB, iKON, and SF9 participated in an idol competition program titled Kingdom: Legendary War. The program is part of Mnet’s idol competition series, Queendom, and Road to Kingdom. Kingdom: The Legendary War was held from April 1st to June 3rd, 2021. In the preliminary competition, titled Road to Kingdom, THE BOYZ won thus securing themselves a chance to further compete in the second program. In January 2021, it was revealed that another five idol groups will take part in the second program. Duo TVXQ‘s Changmin and Yunho hosted the program from the beginning. The winner of the second program gets their own reality show and a special program titled Kingdom Week. Kingdom: Legendary War was broadcast on the Mnet TV channel, Mnet’s YouTube Channel, tvN Asia, and Japan’s Abema TV. JYP Entertainment’s Stray Kids won the program after collecting more than 1,3 million votes.
Stray Kids’ Performances and Ranking in Kingdom
Kingdom: Legendary War was divided into Introduction Stage, Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, and the Final Round. Each idol group performance was evaluated based on Self-Evaluation, Judge/Expert Vote, Global Fan Vote, and Performance Video count.
Stray Kids: Kingdom Introduction Stage
In Introduction Stage, each group selected and performed one of their hit songs in under 100 seconds. The winner of this round earned 1.000 points. In this round, Stray Kids performed “MIROH” and collected the most points, 690,971 points. Their stage performance was very energetic and full of surprises. In the first scene, their eyes suddenly turned fluorescent green when the stage suddenly turned dark. Each member carried a knife to make their choreography more dramatic. In the middle of the performance, one of the members captured the viewers’ attention when he grabbed an electric torch and sprayed blinding electric sparks. It was a truly breathtaking performance. It was no surprise that they reached the first position.
Stray Kids: Kingdom Round 1 – To The World
In the first round, each group performed either one or two of their most popular hit singles. From this moment, evaluation was based on four criteria. Thanks to an elaborate dance choreography involving back dancers, Stray Kids collected the highest number of points. Based on Global vote and video vote, Stray Kids made first ranking while based on Self-evaluation and Judge vote, they made the second rank. Stray Kids: Kingdom Round 2 – RE-BORN
In the second round, each group was given a task to perform other groups’ hit singles. They had the freedom to alter and re-arrange the choreography according to their own style. Stray Kids performed iKON’s “The Awakening of Summer”. Their rank dropped to Sixth based on the Global Vote. However, they collected a massive 1.321 votes from Expert Vote criteria. Thanks to the massive vote, Stray Kids also achieved the first rank for three consecutive rounds.
Stray Kids: Kingdom Round 3 – No Limit
In Round 3, each group had to fight for a total of 40.000 points. Round 3 was divided into two parts. In the first part, each member was divided based on their specialties and they had to compete with other teams. The second part returned to group battle. Stray Kids finally got their highest ranking based on Expert Vote criteria. In total, Stray Kids collected a whopping 6999 points, three times more than the points that ATEEZ collected and twice more than the points that BTOB and THE BOYZ collected. Part of the reason why they collected such a large number of points was that they performed Blackpink‘s hit single “Ddu-Du Ddu Du”. It was an instant hit and catapulted their votes based on the Global Fan vote. In this round, Stray Kids’ Felix started their performance with a Deadpool-inspired stage costume. Stray Kids were the most stable performer throughout Mnet’s Kingdom: Legendary War. They achieved the first rank in the final vote of every round. In the final round, each group performed a new song. Stray Kids performed a new single, “Wolfgang”. They collected more than 17 million votes, three million votes more than the second rank group.
Stray Kids Win Kingdom: Legendary War
Without a doubt, Stray Kids deserved to win Kingdom: Legendary War. Their consistency throughout the rounds and innovative stage performances made them the Kings of male idol groups. “Wolfgang” debuted in the 4th position of the Billboard Global Music Chart and placed among the top 10 in the Apple Music charts in numerous countries. According to Stray Kids members, they chose “MIROH” as their most memorable performance. Stray Kids thanked the global fans for their love and votes throughout the show. Despite their achievement, Stray Kids revealed that they learned a lot about stage performance from senior groups such as BTOB. After winning Kingdom: Legendary War, fans are looking forward to Stray Kids’ own reality show and special program. They will work harder and will achieve even more in the future.
